Abstract
The results here recorded are based on the observation of 600 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis in which an artificial pneumothorax has been performed during the last twelve years, with more than 12,000 inflations. According to the classification of the National Tuberculosis Association, the material consisted of eighty-five cases of moderately advanced and 515 cases of far advanced pulmonary tuberculosis, no patients in the early stages having been subjected to treatment. Thus, it will be seen that we have been very conservative in our selection of material. We have classified this material into eight main clinicopathologic groups: Group 1. —Fibrocaseous tuberculosis. This group consisted of 194 cases of a progressive character in which little or no excavation was demonstrable. Sixty-five cases were moderately advanced, and 129 were far advanced.
