Abstract
The inhibition of bacterial tRNA methylases by S-adenosylethionine resulted in apparent preferential inhibition of cytosine and adenine methylation by S-adenosylmethionine. Uracil and guanine methylases were more resistant to the inhibitor. Adenine and dimethylallyladenine specifically inhibited guanine methylases with only slight to negligible inhibition of adenine and cytosine methylation.
