Abstract
We report on measurements of the unusual temperature dependence of the Knight shift, nuclear spin-lattice relaxation, and susceptibility of Au. A phenomenological scheme is proposed which relates the three properties in terms of a changing atomic character to the wave functions of the itinerant electrons at the Fermi surface.
