Abstract
Exptl. data on beef pituitary gland incubated at 37[degree] C. for varying lengths of time did not support the conception that the relatively low oxytocic content in the pituitary glands of the great whale is caused by autoly-sis. It was noted that many factors influence the loss of activity of the hormones. The hormones in powders made from autolyzed glands are much more soluble in abs. alco-hol and acetone than the hormones in powders made from unautolyzed glands. The oxytocic hormone is about 9 times as soluble as the pressor hormone in mixtures of warm acetone and alc. A method of separation of the pressor and the oxytocic hormones from autolyzed glands is given. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
