Abstract
[male] rats received estradiol either alone or in combination with testosterone beginning before the onset of puberty. Enlargement of the pituitary and adrenals caused by estradiol was inhibited by simultaneous testosterone adm. Thymus atrophy caused by estradiol was intensified in the case of concurrent treatment with testosterone. The pubertal development of the testes was inhibited by estradiol although complete sper-matogenesis occurred at puberty in animals receiving testosterone simultaneously with estradiol. Treatment with this testoid had no influence, however, on the interstitial cell atrophy caused by the folliculoid compound. The marked proliferation of the stroma elicited by estradiol in the [male] accessory sex organs was confirmed, and pronounced round cell infiltration was probably caused by the hormone in the posterior prostate. All these changes were prevented by simultaneous testosterone treatment. The squamous metaplasia of the prostatic epithelium which was caused by folliculoid substances was not prevented by testosterone, in contradiction to previous reports on this subject. The renotrophic action of testosterone was not prevented by simultaneous estradiol treatment. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
