Abstract
There have been a large number of reports on the absorption of fat from an isolated intestinal loop in animals, but apparently there is no record of similar observations for human beings. Recently, an opportunity to make such studies was presented by a patient who had accidentally acquired a temporary Thiry fistula of the middle portion of the ileum during treatment for strangulated femoral hernia. REPORT OF A CASE History. —A man aged 50 was admitted to the hospital with a strangulated femoral hernia on the left side. At operation, owing to the patient's poor condition and to the fact that the strangulated loop of bowel was gangrenous, resection was not carried out, Vorlagerung being performed instead.
