Abstract
The glyoxylic acid test with urines of psychotic patients gave positive reactions with the majority of the 65 schizophrenics, negative reactions with the majority of the 67 non-schizophrenics, including 12 normal adults. The factors responsible for the test reactions are briefly discussed and related to the presence in the urine of a substance with an indole nucleus, other than indole, possibly tryptophan or its metabolites.
