Les employés du secteur public sont-ils différents ?

Abstract
Are individuals involved in the public sector different from those in the private sector with respect to their attitudes and political opinions ? If there is a difference, is it specifie and independent of other socio-economie variables ? A well-known school of public economies, that of public choice, daims that civil servants have a personal interest in the expansion of the public sector, which endows them with a political specificity. A survey of available studies and a poll of a representative sample of the population of Quebec make it possible to test the hypothesis. The results show that the employment sector has only slight influence on political orientation. The influence does follow the direction of the public choice thesis, but is far from having the explanatory strength postulated by that school.
