Abstract
Compiled data are presented to show that, in most cases, the duration of insects without food or water does not exceed a few days; but there are notable exceptions. Water is generally the limiting factor. Fat is the main metabolite during starvation. There is no rigorous correlation between the standard rate of metabolism of an animal and the length of time it can endure without food and water. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
