Relative Effectiveness of Three Types of Light Traps in Collecting Adult Culicoides1

Abstract
Two types of New Jersey mosquito light trap and a blacklight trap were used to collect adult Culicoides in the central Columbia Basin of Washington. Qualitative and quantitative differences in the species collected were pronounced when New Jersey lighttrap collections were compared on a daily or seasonal basis. Operated in the same general area, black light collected 11 times more Culicoides than 110- and 6-volt traps combined.
