Abstract
Human organ grafting has endured its first period of growth and has materially benefited by continuous and penetrating self-examination. Contributing to this form of evaluation has been the assigned task of the American College of Surgeons/National Institutes of Health (ACH/NIH) Organ Transplant Registry, and this report makes its second world survey of organ transplantation activity. Some of the material detailed in this report has appeared in the newsletters that have originated in the Registry. Survival statistics have dominated reporting because these are of most immediate interest. However, more detailed information that may be obtained from an analysis of data other than that pertaining to survival may be prepared in the future. This Organ Transplant Registry can serve the scientific community only because busy transplanters take time to prepare reports that can be summarized centrally.
