Abstract
A study of penicillin assay plates was made by means of techniques intended to delineate the cytochemical picture that develops on such plates when test organisms are subjected to the action of penicillin. 14 tests for detecting oxidation-reduction levels were used and all agreed in indicating that the zones of inhibition are characterized by relatively high levels of rH as compared with areas of non-inhibited growth. Evidence for a threshold effect at the margins of the zones is presented. The results are interpreted largely in terms of relative concs. of -SH and S-S groups. This publication has 13 references indexed in Scilit:
