Abstract
Two androgenic hormones testosterone propionate and mesterolone were compared for their leukopoietic activity on the bone marrow of irradiated rats. Leukocyte reserve was determined at the end of each experiment by injecting salmonella vaccine. The total body X-ray dose was 400 r and different doses of both hormones were injected. Data were analyzed to compare results in both sexes, various dosages of both hormones and differences between prophylactic and therapeutic hormonal treatments. The results revealed that both hormones accelerated recovery time of the leukocytes and a dose-sex relationship was seen in the mesterolone group only.
