Climatically Raised Birch Lines in Southeastern Norway 1918-1968

Abstract
This paper gives a comparison of today's upper timber- and tree-lines with those of the first part of this century. In the eastern highlands of southern Norway the average upper birch timberline is today more than 40 m higher than in 1918. The rising upper birch timber-line reflects the improved climate. The rise is smallest on barren soil and in places where the timber-line is already close to the summit.
