Abstract
To the Editor:— Logan's editorial comment (Amer J Dis Child110: 1 [July] 1965) on a paper by Richards and Patrick (Amer J Dis Child110:4) did well to draw further attention to problems of childhood asthma. Logan emphasized, While in patients whose asthma is moderate or severe the use of epinephrine or one of the theophylline drugs will usually improve aeration, in those with status asthmaticus there will be no evidence of improvement after the administration of epinephrine. Although this lack of effect may be the result of "epinephrine fastness," it is more likely due to thick secretions in the bronchial tree; epinephrine has no effect on these. It would seem as necessary to be concerned about the thick secretions in children who have asthma as in those who have cystic fibrosis.
