Nephrotoxic Action of Spermine

Abstract
Spermine admd. parenterally was highly active in producing renal injury. Intraperit. injns. of 30-60 mg./kg. produced death from renal failure within 7 days in mice, rats and rabbits. The renal lesions consisted of degenerative changes in the proximal convoluted tubules, and the presence of numerous casts in the tubules. This nephrotoxic acition was not observed with spermidine, putrescine, or cadaverine.
