Abstract
Most organisms are associated with a large number of species of beneficial bacteria. In a report of a recent meeting, Ruby, Henderson, and McFall-Ngai reveal the many ways in which the microbial consortia of animals influence the evolution, development, and health of their hosts.Keywords
