Abstract
Three virulent and 3 curative hypovirulent strains of E. parasitica were grown on agar media in the laboratory at 8 different temperatures. The growth rate of several strains changed relatively little between 21.degree. and 32.degree. C, although the fastest rate generally occurred between 27.degree. and 32.degree. C. Growth of 3 virulent strains of E. parasitica in American chestnut [Castanea dentata] trees in the forest was examined for effect of ambient temperature. There was very little difference in canker expansion rate among 3 experiments that covered the range of ambient summer temperatures common in Connecticut [USA]. Growth in the host could be simulated successfully using the in vitro temperature response of the pathogen and air temperatures measured in the field. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
