Abstract
The free vibration characteristics of cantilevered conical shells are determined analytically and compared with available experimental data. Numerical results obtained for the cantilevered conical shell were in good agreement with the experimental values. Frequencies of the conical shell were greatly effected by any variation of the meridianal force boundary condition. The investigation of the cantilevered conical shell clamped at the large radius and free at the small radius produced an interesting result. At low wave numbers, the free end of the conical shell vibrated with large amplitudes. For high circumferential wave numbers, however, the free end essentially stopped vibrating and the largest amplitudes occurred near the clamped large radius. Keywords
