Abstract
The conversion of tertiary amines to iminium ions has been accomplished with such oxidants as mercuric acetate or trityl salts2. We wish to report that hydride ion abstraction can be applied to enamines, allylamines and imines. Treatment of 1 or 3 with trityl tetrafluoroborate (⊘ = phenyl) affords 2 in yields of 91% and 63%, respectively. Keywords
