Abstract
Urea hydrolysis and acid secretion were not stoichiometrically related in frog gastric mucosa secreting in vitro. Therefore, it is unlikely that urease activity is directly involved in the acid production. By releasing ammonia, urease may regulate gastric acidity and protect the mucosa against the action of acid-pepsin.Keywords
