AN OUTBREAK OF TOXOPLASMOSIS IN WALLAROOS (Macropus robustus) IN A CALIFORNIA ZOO

Abstract
Four wallaroos (M. robustus) from a central California [USA] zoo colony of 22 died within a 3 wk period. Histopathologic findings in all 4 cases were suggestive of toxoplasmosis. Brain, lung and heart were the most frequently involved organs. Within 4 mo. of the last death sera from 9 colony members were tested for antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii using the indirect hemagglutination test. All 9 had serological titers ranging from 1:64-1:131,072.
