Mood Disturbances in the Elderly

Abstract
In evaluating the geriatric patient who presents with mood disturbances, with or without chronic brain disease, the physician needs to determine both the quantity and quality of the illness. Since depression is the most frequent manifestation of emotional disorder, many scales and innovations are available today. However, the author found these to be inadequate for use in a research study of depression. A scale was constructed to meet the requirements of his project. The development, scoring, and standardization of the Self-Rating Depression Scale is described.
