Abstract
The use of cardiac irradiation as a therapeutic method of increasing myocardial vascularity was investigated in a series of 56 dogs. Two groups received total radiation doses to the heart of 1300 and 2000 r (200 Kv). There is a significant difference in mortality between control and irradiated dogs when acute complete ligation of the anterior descending branch of the left coronary artery is performed. The percentage difference in the ability to defibrillate dogs between the irradiated and the control groups and the ease with which defibrillation was performed in the radiated group is evident. Keywords
