Abstract
High-resolution electron-beam-excited M4,5N4,5N4,5 Auger-electron spectra of Cs have been measured and analyzed both from atomic Cs and molecular CsI vapors. The observed main fine structure is reproduced fairly well with the mixed-coupling calculations based on the closed-shell approximation. Some extra structure exists, which is stronger in the spectrum of molecular CsI than in the spectrum of atomic Cs. This structure is investigated by carrying out Dirac-Fock calculations for the energies of the Auger transitions locating the outermost electron either on the 6s, 5d, or 4f orbital.
