Abstract
Thermo-osmosis of water and methyl alcohol has been studied. Techniques for measuring thermoosmotic permeability and thermo-osmotic pressure have been described. Heat of transport has been estimated and linear phenomenological equation for transport of matter tested. For water, the equation is valid up to ΔT= 20°C and ΔP= 30 cm of water. The results confirm the earlier finding that the cross-phenomenological coefficients L12 is independent of the temperature gradient ΔT(< 20°C) for water. For methanol, it is independent of ΔT(< 15°C). L12 is also a sensitive function of temperature. Keywords
