Experiments on Bacteria in relation to the Mechanism of Enzyme Action

Abstract
An attempt based upon the conception of active centers is made to interpret the mechanism of enzyme action. This con-ception, which is a development of views put forward earlier on the mechanism of biological dehydrogena-tions, is discussed in relation to the specificity of enzyme action and to the behavior of enzymes when exposed to various changes in chemical and physical environment. Results show that a hypothesis which claims that the activity of surfaces is due to the adsorption thereon of specifically active molecules is inadequate.
