Abstract
An attempt based upon the conception of active centers is made to interpret the mechanism of enzyme action. This con-ception, which is a development of views put forward earlier on the mechanism of biological dehydrogena-tions, is discussed in relation to the specificity of enzyme action and to the behavior of enzymes when exposed to various changes in chemical and physical environment. Results show that a hypothesis which claims that the activity of surfaces is due to the adsorption thereon of specifically active molecules is inadequate. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
