Abstract
The measurement of the elongational viscosity of polymer solutions and melts has become of major importance in contemporary rheology. This paper describes a new viscometer which is capable of measuring the extremely small loads required to elongate filaments of polymer solutions of low concentration. The data obtained from this instrument are used to evaluate the apparent elongational viscosities of several solutions, and the results are correlated in terms of the strains imposed. Keywords
