Abstract
Cutaneous ureterostomy is used as temporary or permanent urinary diversion in children with severe obstructive disease and in patients with myelodysplasia. Ureterostomy is an easy operation to perform but can be followed by serious complications. Young patients (36) who had undergone cutaneous ureterostomy elsewhere and were referred later for a reconstructive operation were discussed. All but 3 patients had undiversions, redirecting the flow of urine to the bladder. These 3 patients had ureterostomies converted to colon conduit diversions. Selected ureterostomy cases were described to emphasize some of the complications and problems that may accompany cutaneous ureterostomy. The solution used for each problem case is outlined. This publication has 26 references indexed in Scilit:
