Abstract
The (n, α) cross section of 59Ni for thermal neutrons has been calculated by the Hauser-Feshbach formalism to be ≍30 b, which is in substantial agreement with the value of 11b required to produce the helium concentration observed by Weitman et al. in samples of nickel irradiated by neutrons.Keywords
