Abstract
The dry red sponge Microciona prolifera contains 16-17% of ether-soluble material of which 8% is sterol. The melting points and optical rotation of this sterol and of several esters indicate that it differs from spongosterol and clionasterol isolated from other sponges. The red pigment of the sponge is closely related to the carotenes. The I content of the dried defatted sponge is 055-0.30%.This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
