Abstract
Principles of the irreversible thermodynamics are recapitulated. Using the basic conservation principles and the principles of irreversible thermodynamics, the fundamental equations and constitutive relations are obtained for fluids, solids, and visco-elastic media. Equations for the entropy production and heat conduction are derived for various special media and for a general medium having internal constraints. For the latter case, a law generalizing Fourier's law of heat conduction is found. Keywords
