Abstract
THE patient described below had the unusual finding of an enlarged parathyroid gland that was palpable and showed calcification on plain-film radiographs.Case ReportJ.W., a 61-year-old man, was admitted to Detroit General Hospital for prostatism. He denied symptoms of hypercalcemia, kidney stones or bone pain. Physical examination disclosed a 1-cm nodule to the left of the trachea near the upper thyroid pole that moved with swallowing.Initial screening showed a serum calcium of over 15, with a mean value of 16.3 mg per 100 ml, and a serum phosphorus of 1.9 mg per 100 ml.
