Abstract
We present an analytical treatment of the nonlocal transverse dependence of the molecular reorientation induced by a Gaussian laser beam in a nematic liquid crystal. In the limit of small laser beam width compared to the film thickness, the induced molecular reorientation's transverse dependence exhibits broadening effect. These results are significant in opto-optical switching and self-phase modulation bistability. Keywords
