Abstract
Autoionization emission in the 3d transition-metal series is observed for the x-ray-excited Auger electrons in the Compton-scattering process. Kinematical analysis of Compton scattering shows that such emission becomes possible only when the x rays have sufficiently high energy to lift the bound 3p electrons into the conduction band. With the tuning capabilities of synchrotron sources, this should open a new channel in autoionization experiments. Keywords
