Emergency Services and the Elderly: The Role of the Social Worker

Abstract
The authors conducted a study of social work training programs, as well as social workers practicing in emergency services, to determine the roles of workers in addressing the psychosocial needs of elderly patients who use such services. Findings indicated that the roles of workers are in the early stages of development and therefore are not clearly defined. Recommendations are made for establishing the social worker's role in emergency services.
