Abstract
Twenty-seven patients with herpes of the face participated in a double-blind controlled trial to test the effect of 5-iodo-2''-deoxyuridine (idoxuridin), 0.5% in cream. Of these, 18 fulfilled the criteria of the trial: 11 were treated with 0.5% idoxuridine cream and 7 with inactive cream. The active cream was found to have no therapeutic advantages over the placebo cream. An alternative method of application of idoxuridine. is discussed. Keywords
