Abstract
The activity of an enzyme should be inversely proportional to its dilution. 3 dehydrogenases of Bad. coli[long dash]formic, suc- cinic and glucose[long dash]were investigated. The first 2 showed this proportionality between certain limits; the last, none. An investigation into the factors involved in the methylene-blue technique used, e.g., poisoning by the dye, etc., showed that these factors were sufficient to account for results in the first 2, but not in the last. However, a thermostable co-enzyme of glucose dehydro genase was demonstrated in the bacteria; addition of heated bacteria resulted in the proportionality being manifested by this enzyme within limits which could now be explained by these other factors. The methylene- blue technique is thus limited in applicability. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
