Abstract
To the Editor: Angioplasty has indeed become a useful treatment in some patients with vascular disease. The article by Doubilet and Abrams (Jan. 12 issue)* suggesting good results and substantial cost savings if angioplasty were used more frequently is an interesting and provocative analysis. Unfortunately, their conclusions are based on too many assumptions to lead to anything less than considerable skepticism with regard to both efficacy and cost.Angioplasty is still a relatively new procedure. The appropriate indications and long-term patency have still not been clearly defined. The current system of having patients with vascular disease referred to vascular surgeons . . .Keywords
