Pion double charge exchange onT=2 nuclei in theΔ3/2,3/2resonance region

Abstract
We present cross sections for the reactions Ca44 ,56Fe(π+,π) leading to the residual ground states and double-isobaric-analog states (DIAS) for incident pion energies from 100 to 300 MeV. Data include both angular distributions and 5° excitation functions. Ground-state cross sections were also obtained from the C12 and O16 contaminants in the Ca44 target. The DIAS data are compared to known systematics and to theoretical predictions. Some features of the data are reproduced by the theoretical predictions, but major discrepancies exist.
