Abstract
The intravenous injection of crude saline extracts of Stannius corpuscles from American eels, Anguilla rostrata, elicited a dose-dependent hypocalcemic response in young male rats with Kenny's (Endocrinology, 89: 1005–1013, 1971) bioassay for calcitonin. Extracts of Stannius corpuscles from the brown bullhead, Ictalurus nebulosus, and extracts of eel muscle and eel kidney had no calcium lowering activity. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
