Abstract
Closed expressions are derived for the weight‐average and the z‐average degree of polymerization for polymers undergoing random scission processes. These expressions are applicable to any initial molecular size distribution. Application is made to the case where the initial distribution is the generalized Poisson type. In particular, numerical results are given for some initially broad molecular size distributions of this type. Keywords
