Abstract
The history of asparagus breeding in New Zealand is traced with particular emphasis on work carried out since 1968 by Crop Research Division, DSIR. The current pest and disease situation affecting the asparagus crop in New Zealand is presented and recommendations for the future asparagus breeding programme are made.Keywords
