Abstract
The acute response to inhaled Th 1165a in the form of a metered aerosol was tested in 38 patients with asthma. The forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) increased in all patients, the mean value rising from 56.7% of predicted value to 71.6% (P < 0.025). A similar rise occurred in vital capacity (65.5% to 78.4%, P < 0.025). As 31 of the patients had inhaled salbutamol or orciprenaline less than four hours before the test, these changes may be considered as additional improvement. It appears that Th 1165a, when used as a test agent for acute airways responsiveness, functions as a powerful bronchodilator. Keywords
