Body temperature of chicks in response to lysine deficiency

Abstract
Body temperatures were compared in chicks fed diets adequate and deficient in lysine. Temperatures were measured with thermistor probes implanted in the pectoralis major muscle. In three separate experiments lysine-deficient diets were fed for 18 h, 30 h, or 2 weeks before measuring temperatures. Temperatures were consistently higher in the birds fed the lysine-deficient diet.
