Abstract
The gonadotropic potency of the blood and the condition of the ovaries and uterus were examined in 16 mares bled to death between the 46th and 74th days of pregnancy. There is a higher level of serum gonadotropin in mares carrying twin foals when a set of en-dometrial cups develop in both horns of the uterus than in the single pregnant animal. The ovaries of all mares were hypertrophic. 20 ova were recovered from the fallopian tubes of 11 mares. Ovarian activity is discussed in relation to estrogen production and the effect of this hormone on the regulation of pituitary activity.
