Abstract
The coupling mechanism of a C laser with a plasma has been investigated. The parametric decay instability, stimulated Brillouin backscattering, and the modulational instability were observed at theoretically predicted laser power thresholds. The modulational instability seems to be responsible for the generation of magnetic fields and fast ions.
