Host Relationships of Seed Chalcids Reared from Birdsfoot Trefoil

Abstract
A number of species of leguminous plants bearing developing seed pods were placed in cages containing adult seed chalcids (Bruchophagus gibbus) reared from birdsfoot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus) seed. The seed chalcids readily oviposited in the developing seed of birdsfoot trefoil and several other spp. of Lotus, including narrowleaved trefoil (Lotus tenuis), Lotus uliginosus and Lotus hispidus. The test insects did not oviposit in the seed of alfalfa (Medicago sativa) or red clover (Trifoliuro pratense L.).
