Abstract
Observations made on stem dimensions of Opuntia show diurnal fluctuations comparable to those in broad-leaved plants but in opposite phase. Opuntia stems increase in size during daylight hours and decrease in the dark. The behavior may be related in part to the unusual stomatal response associated with the biochemical pattern of acid fixation in the dark. Keywords
