Abstract
A theoretical analysis of a new type of erbium-doped fiber amplifier with an isolator in its midway is presented. It is shown that the noise characteristics as well as the gain characteristics are improved by the midway isolator. The optimization of the isolator position is also discussed.<>Keywords
